Works start on a Newent Jubilee Wildlife Walk

Press Releases - 23/08/2016

Newent Town Council has commenced works on a Jubilee Wildlife Walk at Newent Lake.

The Jubilee Wildlife Walk project will include the installation of a pathway that will be suitable for all users including the elderly, disabled and those with babies and young children in buggies, to have access to a peaceful wildlife area. Bird and bat boxes will be erected and shrubs, wildflowers and trees will be planted to enhance the wildlife habitat.

Newent Town Council was awarded a grant of £5,000 towards the project by the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust. Ermin Plant Hire and BuildBase have also been very generous supporters of the project.

Cllr Chris Howley who instigated the project said "After receiving much support from local community groups, I felt that this particular area of the Lake could be improved to allow all Newent residents access to an enhanced wildlife area".

Over the coming months, local community groups and schools will be helping with the project by painting bird boxes and planting trees.
