The Victoria Centre offers something quite unique to over one hundred retired residents of Lydney and district.
On two days lunch is provided at £3.50 per member and, on Wednesdays, lunch, entertainment and occasional trips are on offer for 'the housebound', for whom this day represents a lifeline. On Fridays an exercise class and light lunch at £2.50 is available (class and transport free).
The Centre is open for forty nine weeks per year and is run exclusively by volunteers. Food is cooked on the premises in the recently refurbished 5 star kitchen.
The building is rented by the Trustees from the County Council on a full repairing lease. Fund raising is therefore essential.
The constant aim is not only to provide a healthy meal but also an opportunity for members to socialise in a warm and pleasant environment. The town and local medical practitioners value this charity and support it wholeheartedly. The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust provided a grant of £6,000 for a new water and heating system.
