Landfill Communities Fund for the benefit of Gloucestershire

Projects > The Redwell Centre

Eco-energy refurbishment

Posted: 20th December 2010

Funding: £20,000
Scheme Type: Normal Grants
Project Type: Community Buildings
Area: Gloucester City Council

The Redwell Centre, St. Hilda's Hall, Redwell Road, Gloucester, GL4 6JG

The Redwell Centre underwent a £70,000 refurbishment thanks to a £20,000 grant from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust and £50,000 from the County Council's Youth Capital Fund. The work included new offices, meeting rooms, insulation heating system and lighting.

Disabled access has been improved, with a new wheelchair-friendly ramp and front door. A new dance studio has also been installed and the fitness room is now up and running.

Many of the features have an eco-energy aspect to them as Severn Wye Energy helped develop a comprehensive report of the Centre's efficiency. The builders, VS Robinson & Son, also did a great job working round the many youth groups and the Lunch Club.

As a result the facilities have been greatly improved for young people and the whole community.
