Essential building works to new village hall

Posted: 13th October 2014

Funding: £29,220
Scheme Type: Normal Grants
Project Type: Community Buildings
Area: Cotswold District Council

Quenington Village Hall, Gate on the Green, The Green, Quenington, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, GL7 5BS

In January 2012, the community of Quenington near Cirencester, purchased a redundant chapel to replace its village hall which was no longer fit for purpose. This building offered larger, more flexible and accessible accommodation but it did need some necessary work to bring it up to current health and safety standards, improve its energy efficiency and comfort.

This work was made possible by the grant from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust in addition to the village's own fundraising. In February 2013 the hall was closed for a short period in order to carry out these works.

This included removal of asbestos guttering and a redundant chimney; rewiring of the main hall; the installation of an additional toilet, more energy efficient lighting, wall and loft insulation, emergency exit lighting, fire alarms, fire safety doors and building a new evacuation platform and ramp at the rear of the building. Local area network points were also put in to improve the potential for future user groups. An opening ceremony was held in May 2013 to celebrate the new hall with which the village is thoroughly delighted.
