New Spiral Feature within children's play area

Posted: 15th May 2012

Funding: £7,500
Scheme Type: Normal Grants
Project Type: Community Open Spaces
Area: Cotswold District Council

Chipping Campden Recreation Ground, George Lane, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, GL55 6DA

The Spiral Feature which forms the centrepiece of the new play area in Chipping Campden was provided with the help of a grant from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust.

The feature was incorporated to appeal to children's imagination and designed to be accessible to children of all abilities, with a path allowing wheelchair access.

The previous play area had been closed on safety grounds leaving Chipping Campden with the worst playing facilities of any comparably sized town in the Cotswold District Council area. The objective was to construct a new landscaped area, providing facilities for natural play and social interaction. The scheme was designed so that all excavated material would be retained and re-used on site.

This part of the project was completed in September 2010 and was formally opened by the town's mayor on 2 October 2010.
