Contribution towards solar panels
Posted: 13th October 2014
Funding: £3,000
Scheme Type: Fast Track Grants
Project Type: Community Buildings
Area: Stroud District Council
North Nibley Village Hall, Innocks Estate, North Nibley, Dursley, Gloucestershire, GL11 6DP
The committee and local community of North Nibley has transformed its village hall, now fit for the 21st century, by installing solar/PV panels and reducing energy bills by up to £600 a year.
The hall already holds GRCC's Hallmark Awards levels 1, 2 and 3 and current hire levels predict a sustainable future.
A grant of £3,000 from Gloucestershire Environmental Trust towards the solar panels helped generate an increase in usage and bookings. The income from the panels will bring new revenue and extend services to the local communities of 'free hours'. An estimated 40 free hours a year will enable not-for-profit events to be held and lend support to other village organisations as well as promoting new ones.
With users from under 5 years to over 60 years, North Nibley village hall is a vital community hub.
