Posted: 9th October 2010

Funding: £19,600

Project Type: Community Buildings
Area: Stroud District Council

Cashes Green Community Centre, Queens Drive, Cashes Green, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 4NR

Bringing the vital Cashes Green Community Centre into the 21st century has been the aim after extensive improvement works have been completed.

Using funding from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, the centre has had a major make-over to ensure it is an attractive facility for residents to use for a variety of activities.

The centre is also central to developers' plans to build 80 new homes across the road.

Work has included removing the canopy above the front door, which makes it more open and less attractive to anti-social behaviour. A new modern, white steel front door and new fascias and soffits have been fitted and areas of flat roofing have been replaced. The main hall and the lobby have been repainted by community payback.

There is still more to be done and future plans include a new, enclosed kitchen to prepare food, replacing windows and modernising footballers' changing and shower facilities.
