Witcombe and Bentham Village Hall, Pillcroft Road, Witcombe, Gloucestershire, GL3 4TB
The prospect of permanent closure stimulated Witcombe's local community to to raise the £200,000 necessary for a major refurbishment of Witcombe and Bentham village hall.
Built in the early 1970s, the popular Hall was a focal point for many regular and special events but had become unsafe to use. Movement of the roof trusses and bowing of the ceiling left current users without an amenity for a year.
Extensive refurbishment including a new roof and ceiling, eco-friendly heating, disabled toilets, a bigger kitchen and much more, has increased energy efficiency and security. The Hall can now accommodate a wide range of activities for all ages.
Financial support was provided by several major organisations including a £30,000 grant from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust.
The Hall is now welcoming back the communities of Greater Witcombe, Bentham, Badgeworth and the edge of Shurdington. It was given a final blessing by The Rev. Canon Richard Mitchell.
