A new sports hall will be the latest addition to Waterwells Sports Centre in Quedgeley, making it one of the best sports and recreation centres in the county.
The new sports hall also includes a new kitchen and meeting room. All will be available to hire out.
The project has been possible with donations from Robin Greaves Sport Foundation of £250,000, £35,000 from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, £10,000 from Summerfield Charitable Trust, £5,000 from Garfield Weston and other contributions from the Parish Council, Gloucester City Council, Quedgeley Wanderers FC and the Gloucester Old Spot work.
The sports centre was originally provided by the Parish Council, Quedgeley Wanderers FC and Gloucester City Council to improve sports facilities for local residents.
In the last few years, new facilities to the centre have included four new football pitches, changing rooms and an all-weather floodlit multi-use synthetic pitch. In 2011, a large playground was installed by the city council.
The building has been designed and constructed by Kilbury Construction Limited and Crest Nicholson has provided the land under a planning agreement and allowed the sports hall to be built on public open space.
