Encouraging new visitors and installing modern facilities has been the major aim of work carried out to a symbolic church in Gloucestershire.
The Priory Church of St Mary's, Deerhurst has undergone substantial works to benefit and enhance the church's heritage, religious and educational functions.
A grant of £101,000 was given by The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, which has funded the work inside of the church and installed an outside toilet.
The programme of work planned by Deerhurst with Apperley PCC, named the project 'Open to the Future', aiming to extend the church's facilities to wider audiences and meet the needs of the community who use it today.
The chapel was dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury in July to commemorate the Millennium of the Martyrdom of St. Alphege and signifies the importance of the church as part of Gloucestershire's heritage.
