Funding: £30,000
Scheme Type: Normal Grants
Project Type: Community Buildings
Area: Forest of Dean District Council
Pauntley Village Hall, Brand Green Road, Brand Green, Pauntley, Nr Red Marley, GL18 2BL
The village hall, an ex-ministry building, is more than 60 years old and was in desperate need of refurbishment. Consisting of a timber frame with concrete particle boarding and an asbestos roof, it was very cold in winter and not energy efficient.
After receiving funding from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, the repairs began in the summer of 2009. Double glazed windows were installed and the walls were externally insulated with 60mm of insulation and a cream coloured rendering. The roof was also insulated with 60mm insulation boards.
The hall is now a smart warm building and has a new lease of life, ready for the next 60 years.
As a result, the hall is used even more by the community and donations and volunteers have increased.
